With our US forests being devastated by the beetle epidemics, we encourage the purchase and usage of blue stain wood
in building projects. Recycling the wood into usable products is much
more environmentally friendly than burning, chipping, or letting it
rot. Rather than purchasing the subsidized imported Canadian pine wood that is prevalent in all our home improvement stores and regular lumber yards, we encourage lumber buyers to create a demand for blue stain wood at the Local and National retailer level to help lift our economy and generate more US jobs.
As members of Colorado Forest Products we promote and sell blue stain beetle kill pine. The blue coloration in the pine wood is caused by a fungus introduced when the bark beetles enter the pine trees to mate and lay their eggs. The fungus clogs the water transport system of the tree eventually killing the tree if a massive beetle attack does not kill the tree first.

Blue stain pine is beautiful and unique with each pine wood piece having its own variations of color. Not every log taken from a tree killed by the fungus is totally blue. Many are a mix of white wood and blue wood. Higher concentrations of blue are often found in the first boards that are milled closest to the outer surface of the logs.
Blue stain fungus does not affect the strength of the wood. The blue stain does not spread from piece to piece or within a piece of lumber. The blue stain does not cause rot or decay. Blue stain lumber will not weaken over time and is as strong as non-blue stain lumber. It can and has been used in building construction.
Blue stain lumber is harmless to human health. Blue stain is not a mold and will not cause mold in homes.
Blue stain wood has been used in the construction of log cabins, houses and other structures for framing, siding, flooring, interior & ceiling paneling, for tables, chairs and many other decorative uses for hundreds of years.
